Rincón de la Vieja (translated to “Corner of the Old Woman”) is an active andesitic complex volcano in north-western Costa Rica. Rincón de la Vieja stands 1,916 metres (6,286 ft) above sea level, and its summit is the highest point in Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park. It erupted most recently in September 2011. The volcano has a large number of fumaroles, waterfalls and hot springs you will get to enjoy as well as its volcanic mud.

Mammals that inhabit the park include pumas, jaguars, margays, ocelots, tapirs, tayras, howler, spider, capuchin monkeys, sloths, and many more. There are many amphibians including blue jeans, dart frogs, red-eyed leaf frogs, and smoky jungle frogs.
